Iowa State Research Community Recognized with University Honors

The Iowa State research community was well-represented in the university’s annual awards announced April 29 through Inside Iowa State.

More than 70 Iowa State faculty and staff will be recognized this fall for winning one of the university’s annual awards. Included was a new award honoring interdisciplinary team research that recognizes a team of two or more faculty researchers with outstanding achievements who have made a significant contribution to the university’s research and scholarship mission through interdisciplinary collaborations.

The recipients for this inaugural award are contributors to the Data Sciences for the Public Good initiative:

  • Todd Abraham, assistant director of data and analytics, Iowa Integrated Data System;
  • Cassandra Dorius, associate professor, Human Development and Family Studies;
  • Shawn Dorius, associate professor, Sociology;
  • Heike Hofmann, professor, Statistics
  • Jim Reecy, associate vice president for Research;
  • Christopher Seeger, professor, Landscape Architecture; and
  • Adisak Sukul, associate teaching professor, Computer Science.

Other members of the Iowa State research community recognized with university honors for 2021 include:

Regents Award for Staff Excellence

  • Jerry Zamzow, associate vice president for research.

Outstanding Achievement in Research

  • John Levis, Angela B. Pavitt Professor in English;
  • Thomas Lubberstedt, K.J. Frey Chair in Agronomy; and
  • Christian Meissner, professor of Psychology.

Mid-Career Achievement in Research

  • Phillip Gauger, associate professor, Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine;
  • Laura Jarboe, Cargill Professor, Chemical Engineering; and
  • Michelle Soupir, professor, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.

Early Achievement in Research

  • Robbyn Anand, assistant professor, Chemistry; and
  • Nigel Reuel, assistant professor, Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Professional and Scientific Research Award

  • Maro Ibarburu-Blanc, research scientist, Animal Science.

Achievement in Intellectual Property

  • Nigel Reuel, assistant professor, Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Professional and Scientific Excellence Award

  • Jessica Bell, research administrator, Grants Hub; and
  • Sunghwan Kim, research scientist, Institute for Transportation.

Carroll Ringgenberg Award

  • Peter Lelonek, research administrator, Office of the Vice President for Research.

Professional and Scientific Outstanding New Professional Award

  • Hanna Bates, program specialist, Water Resources Research Institute; and
  • Kathleen Ross, research scientist, Nanovaccine Institute.
